Auvers-sur-Oise, Van Gogh's village
About 35 km northwest of Paris, Auvers-sur-Oise is the village where Vincent van Gogh spent his final ten weeks in 1890, painting nearly 80 canvases — the church, the wheat fields, the town hall — before being buried in the village cemetery, right next to his brother Theo.
The village has changed little: cobbled lanes, the façade of the Auberge Ravoux where he lived, Dr. Gachet's garden, and the same views over the Oise valley that had already drawn Daubigny, Cézanne and Pissarro before him.
A day trip to Auvers-sur-Oise from Paris
Expect 45 minutes to an hour of driving from Paris. Aboard the quiet, comfortable Tesla Model Y, your driver takes you at your own pace between the church, the cemetery and the village centre, with time to walk and take photos without feeling rushed.
The excursion runs about 4 hours including the round trip. Tolls and parking are included in the price; any entrance tickets (Auberge Ravoux, Absinthe museum) are paid on site.
